“I hope this kindness comes back to you.”

I don't personally know Yasmin. I don't even know what she looks like. But when we received a batch of thank you letters from an elementary school a few days ago, her sentence had an instant impact on me.

If there's one thing I've learned about leading a nonprofit organization, it's how much of my job is, simply put - gratitude. Feeling it, expressing it, and coming back the next day to feel it again - anew! Now that I think about it, it is the overwhelming feeling of this job, by a long shot. And it never gets old!

Gratitude to...

  • our staff for their talent and passion for this work

  • people who donate books out of compassion for kids

  • our financial supporters that make these programs at all feasible

  • our volunteers for giving precious hours of their life to serve

  • AISD personnel for their collaboration and hospitality

  • our board for their support and mentorship

  • so much more...

I hope for YOU the same thing Yasmin hopes. However many of these categories that you may be in, please accept this simple and profound blessing: I hope this kindness comes back to you.
